Noodles

Noodles isn't really a fitness enthusiast, but she does love cuddles and a good day of rest. She's happiest when she's making new friends, chasing leaves, laying in the grass, and seeing what humans are taking out of the refrigerator. She has a perfect down dog and serves as the official furry friend of Yoyogi.

Why "Yoyogi?"

Josh traveled to Tokyo, Japan in the spring of 2019 and, upon landing, arrived at a beautiful vinyasa yoga studio nestled in northern Tokyo. As he stepped off the train, he noticed a sign displaying the name of the neighborhood, Yoyogi, overhead.

While the name roughly translates to "generations of trees," he fell in love with the inherent playfulness of the word - yo, yogi! - and thought it would be the perfect name for Yoyogi's lighthearted, but motivating, teaching style.

What type of yoga class does Yoyogi lead?

Yoyogi leads classes that are a variation of power yoga.

Power yoga is a type of yoga that blends the sequencing and breathwork of a typical vinyasa class with added emphasis on muscle engagement, muscle action, and athletic movements. The style of power yoga that Yoyogi teaches is one that will push you - within your individual comfort level - both physically and mentally.

The first 3/4 of class focuses on slowly building towards a "peak pose" (for example: crow pose, revolved half moon, baby grasshopper, etc) and dynamic core work. The last 1/4 focuses on hip, shoulder, and large muscle group stretches, as well as spinal twists and gentle inversions.

You'll sweat and discover new ways to move your body while connecting with other yogis in your community. You'll also jam to some music - we love to crank it up a bit and keep our classes lighthearted and fun.

Never taken a yoga class? Don't worry - that's why we're here! We will break down each pose with several cues and physically demonstrate peak poses and more complex movements. There's never any judgment and we will never single you out during class. You've got this!
